Spring 2019 First Look: Tigres Academy UNAL CA to send the first team to participate in the prestigious Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup

We are delighted and incredibly proud to announce that this upcoming spring Tigres Academy UNAL CA will be joining Tigres Mexico, the defending champions of the 2018 Gordon Jago Super Group, in one of this year’s most anticipated events, the Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup’s 40th Anniversary Tournament.

As the oldest and most prestigious international youth soccer tournament in the United States, the Dallas Cup is a coveted tournament to compete in. Therefore, without much further ado, we want to congratulate our 2001 Boys Team, led by Head Coaches Ruben Lemus and Gerardo Martell, for achieving the opportunity to represent the academy in this highly selective and competitive tournament.

Traditionally held during Easter Week, the tournament only invites USSF, USYSA, and international FIFA affiliated club, league, or association teams. Unquestionably, Tigres Academy UNAL CA 2001 Boys Team has earned a spot in the tournament as a result of their tremendous achievement in making league playoffs and semi-finals as well as obtaining a well-deserved spot as a semi-finals team in the Las Vegas Thanksgiving Tournament, this past November.

In the 2019 Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup, to be held April 14-21, 2019, our players will compete alongside approximately 900 established and up-and-coming players from U.S. and international teams as well as be seen by thousands of spectators. Therefore, we are proud to know that Tigres Academy UNAL CA will be one of the chapters who will outstandingly represent Tigres FC. In 2018, Tigres Mexico was among 224 teams who participated in 9 age brackets with players between the ages of U13 - U19. From these highly competitive groups, Tigres Mexico claimed championship titles in the Univision Deportes Super 14’s and the elite Gordon Jago Super Group against Arsenal FC.

The 2001 Boys Team will make history as the first Tigres Academy UNAL CA team to participate in this prestigious tournament, which has hosted world class teams like Manchester United, Real Madrid, Barcelona, AC Milan, Club American, and Tigres FC. Additionally, our players will join star players such as David Beckham, Landon Donovan, and Chicharito as alumni of the tournament.
